Candy cane whipped cream

This one is easy enough for kids to help with. Candy cane whipped cream is good enough to put on top of hot chocolate or eve nice cream!~ To make break some candy canes up and crush them. This can be done in a blender. Once it is crushed enough to your liking mix it in with some whipped cream and place on top of your favorite desert.

Candy Cane Slime

This is by far my favorite slime we made. It was a little sticky to hands but totally worth it. To make this I used one bottle of white school glue, borax, water, and peppermint extract. First in one bowl pour half of a bottle of school glue and about half a cup of water. Then add in some red food coloring and peppermint extract. Mix good Then in another bowl pour the rest of the school glue and another half cup of water. Mix this well too. Lastly in another bowl mix one cup of water with one teaspoon of borax. Then mix half the borax water into each bowl and keep mixing till slime forms. It did not take long for our red slime to form, only about 3 mins. The white took a little longer. I then let my daughter mix them together as she pleased.

Felt tree

Felt Christmas tree  Now I am not good at cutting felt so this tree was pre-cut but if you'r good enough at it you can just buy a big piece of felt and cut a tree out. The extra pieces are also felt. They do stick to each other but we also used sticky tabs to help them stick to the tree. Everything is removable so kids can do it over and over. This was just a really fun project for my kids. If anyone knows a great trick for cutting felt please do share it!

Sensory Christmas Bin for 2014

This is our first sensory Christmas bin for the end of 2014,it is crazy how fast this year went. In this bin I made sure to add things of different texture and sizes. So as my kids played I could ask questions like~ What item is the smallest in the bin? What is the biggest item in the bin? What are some red objects? What are some round objects? Some things in this bin are~ fake flowers  pom poms fake tree Christmas balls fake snow snow globe and more~ Children learn best and retain the most information when they engage their senses. So get to crafting!~ Thank you for reading~

K cup actives

These K cups are great for many different crafts and play time ideas. This time we did something simple and just used them to build. My son loves playing with creamer cups when we go out to eat so this was a good idea for him to help work on his fine motor skills.  Next we made some different patterns with them, great hands on learning time. Of course you can use these as planters for the start of plants but right now its snowing outside so we will save that for later.  Have a great day!

Fall time slime

Recipe~ In one bowl mix one small bottle of glue (white works better then clear but both do work) with one cup of water....add in any decorations to this bowl (we used leaves) in another bowl mix 1/2 cup of water with one teaspoon of borax. Makes sure both bowls are mixed well then add the borax water to the other bowl while mixing. Mixing with hands makes it easier. Once mixed let it sit for few mins and done!~ Mine was a little sticky but after sitting it was good to go. To store place in a air tight container, it will last for awhile. Not edible but I think that's a given.

Dramatic Play, Thanksgiving dinner

Dramatic play can be defined as a type of play where children accept and assign roles, and then act them out. It is a time when they break through the walls of reality, pretend to be someone or something different from themselves, and dramatize situations and actions to go along with the roles they have chosen to play. In this dramatic play my kids are both being cooks and servers, serving their own thanksgiving meal to their own family. It was neat to see what they each made. My son leaned more towards making things and arranging them by shapes and colors so he made some burgers that went to one side of the table and then corn that went to another side, while my daughter just made sure to have a main course and then some sides. You could also make this a learning activity by asking about colors, sizes, and textures.   What do you think your kid/kids would add to their own Thanksgiving meal?

Scented turkey picture

To make this scented craft start by drawling a turkey on a piece of paper or use a turkey picture you all ready have. Then let your kid/kids either use a glue stick or glue and a paint brush to add glue to the picture, once added use different spices to decorate. We used pumpkin spice, paprika and more.

taped resident winter tree

Today it is cold here in PA and even though we have no snow we decided to do a snowy winter picture. To make this easy idea first you use tape to make a tree on the paper then you use paint to paint the whole paper, even over the tape. You can then add glitter if you would like. Once done remove the tape (it is easier to do so while the paint is wet), and finished! You could continue this craft and let your kid/kids add sticker, fabric, or maybe some felt. We did add some fabric to ours when we were done. Either way just remember to have fun!

Lego indian corn

What can I say Legos are great little toys with many different possibilities.   We have made  doll furniture (http://funthingstodowithurkidz.blogspot.com/2014/05/lego-furniture-for-dolls-and-toys.html) cars (http://funthingstodowithurkidz.blogspot.com/2014/04/lego-and-play-dough-cars.html) on the go play set (http://funthingstodowithurkidz.blogspot.com/2014/02/lego-fun-on-go.html) and have painted with them many times. This time we used them to paint some corn to use as a nice fall/thanksgiving decoration. This is a activity no one can go wrong with as their is no set way of doing this. You can make your own corn look anyway you wish. Don't forget to comment, share, and like! Thank you

Handprint acorns

We use acorns a lot to play with and even feed them to our animals so it was gonna happen that we turn it into a hand print piece of art. Well here it is using two different browns and some red that my son had to add in. :) Remember to like and share our post, we will do a give away soon!~

Around the world

Our around the world in a suit case activity was a fun and easy. We used a old suitcase and filled it with things that would show off what is the world and what goes on in places other then where we live.  My kids enjoyed finding things to add and loved seeing pictures of family that live far. It was a easy way to introduce a globe to my kids and teach about new things. Learning threw play is how my kids learn, and it's very effective.  Think the only thing that could have made it better was if I had some food from around the world for them to try, maybe next time. What would you add in a around the world suitcase with your child?

Poppy handprints

poppy field craft

In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day(veterans day) with the following words: "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…" poppy field craft using constriction paper marker and glue. On the back my daughter practiced writing by writing and reading this poem~ "In Flanders fields the poppies grow, Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: T

Our thankful tree made form scraps

To make this tree we used anything we had left over from other crafts including~ paper tissue paper old Easter egg fake grass and more. Every day we will write something we are thankful for all around the tree. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

I let my son play with dolls!

Each year many kids/teens think about suicide, and even more sadly commit it. Half of the kids who do commit this are a result of bullying. Now their is many reasons why kids/teens get bullied but one thing is common, these kids learned it form some place!! If a kid looks different, if they speak different, if a girl likes boy toys, if a boy likes girl toys. These are all reasons why kids get bullied among many others. This closed minded way of thinking is sad to see now and days. I would like to think we all grew above these standers of thinking boys playing with dolls will make them gay or that girls who like batman are not "normal", but we haven't.  Recently a lady who I do not know made a comment over my son's toes being painted blue. My son is 3 and loves to be just like his big sister and so what if he wants his toes painted blue?, this doesn't make him any less of a boy. This does not make him "weird" or not "normal". I never set up

Turkey thankful coloring page

Making coloring pages is easy. To make one just make a outline in permit marker and let your kids have fun coloring/painting it. Hint~ If your like me and not good at drawing try using a template and tracing it maybe adding a few things to make it our own style, google is great for templates.  This one is for thanksgiving. My kids colored it and then shared what they are thankful for.

Thanksgiving vocabulary bin

We made a thanksgiving bin with rice and some items then I put thanksgiving related words on paper and added them in the bin so as my kids played we talked about all the words and the definition of each. note~ dried rice is always a good sensory bin filler. It was be used over and over and you can even change the color of it~
